UH Warriors land two Kahuku High standouts

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Two Kahuku High School standouts will be joining the University of Hawaii football program.

All-State linebacker Paipai Falemalu and linebacker/defensive end Alema Tachibana today accepted football scholarships from UH.

By accepting, Falemalu turned down offers from California, Washington and Oregon State.

Falemalu is 6 feet 3 and 220 pounds and has been called a "coach's dream" by Kahuku head coach Reggie Torres. "He's a good student and a great athlete," Torres said.

Torres said Tachibana, who is 6-3 and 200, can play both positions but prefers to "be in a three-point stance and charge."

The first day that high school recruits can sign binding national letters of intent is Wednesday.
