Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i seniors Meghan Weaver and Annett Wichmann, and junior Emily Sheppard posted NCAA provisional marks at the University of Washington Track and Field Invitational in Seattle.

Weaver, who is from London, Ontario, shattered the UH indoor record in the shot put with a heave of 50 feet, 2 1/2 inches yesterday to win the competition by more than a foot. She will likely earn a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.

Wichmann, a native of Jena, Germany and the reigning Western Athletic Conference pentathlon champion, scored 4,027 points to win the event after just missing the NCAA automatic qualification by 23 points. She will likely make her second straight appearance in the NCAAs.

Sheppard, who is from Vancouver, British Columbia, placed third in the high jump with a school indoor record of 5-10 1/2.

Also yesterday, junior Jessica Custance set a school indoor record after clearing 12-8 in the pole vault to finish seventh, and junior Thalia Amanakis set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds to finish ninth. Amanakis also bettered her personal best in the 800 with a 2:13.09. Sophomore Sam Whitehall also set a PR in the event at 2:24.39.
