Eastern shores under high-surf advisory

Advertiser Staff

A high-surf advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight for the eastern shores of Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i, Maui and the Big Island.

The latest National Weather Service forecast said surf along east-facing shores will be 6 feet to 9 feet, but will drop to 3 feet to 6 feet along north-facing shores.

Surf along west-facing shores will be 2 feet to 3 feet, and southern shores will see a slight increase to 2 feet to 4 feet.

The short-period trade wind swell is expected to hover near or just slightly above the advisory level of 8 feet for the east-facing shores until Wednesday. A new northwest swell may boost the surf to near advisory levels for the north and west shores of O'ahu Thursday. This swell is expected to peak Thursday night and start lowering Friday. Otherwise, no other significant swells are expected.
