Kailua's Dwyer to play in LPGA's SBS Open

Advertiser Staff

Kailua's Bridget Dwyer, a decorated student-athlete at UCLA who has golfed professionally since 2004, received a sponsor's exemption to play in the LPGA's SBS Open at Turtle Bay, Feb. 14 to 16 on the North Shore.

Dwyer has been on the Duramed Futures Tour — the LPGA's developmental tour — the past two years, finishing 64th and 72nd on the money list. She was a finalist on Big Break VI with Donald Trump, which aired in 2006 on The Golf Channel.

After graduating from Punahou in 1999, Dwyer was a three-time All-Scholar selection for the Bruins, and was named the team's Most Inspiring Athlete in her senior year when UCLA won the NCAA championship.

Dwyer plans to again play on the Futures Tour this year. She now has her own Web site — bridgetdwyer.com.

The SBS Open is the LPGA's first event of the year and will be played at Turtle Bay's Palmer Course. Annika Sorenstam and previous champions Paula Creamer (2007) and Jennifer Rosales (2005) are on the initial entry list along with Dwyer, Turtle Bay's Dorothy Delasin, Kapalua's Morgan Pressel and

former Rainbow Wahine Cindy Rarick. Last month Rosales and Delasin, the team from the Philippines, won the fourth Women's World Cup of Golf in South Africa.
