Young musicians to rally for Honolulu Symphony

Advertiser Staff

Students of the Hawaii Youth Symphony will host a rally in support of the Honolulu Symphony, featuring musical excerpts from Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" and student commentary, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. A presentation of donations from the students will take place at 4:45 p.m.

HYS Concertmaster Asia Doike is spearheading the initiative to collect donations from within the ranks of the HYS.

"I want to demonstrate our support for the musicians who are our teachers, our role models and our inspiration. They are the source that has given me many musical opportunities for which I'm very grateful," Doike said in a statement.

HYS students have invited student musicians from across the state to bring their instruments and wear their school T-shirts to the rally.

For information, contact the HYS office 941-9706 or visit www.hiyouthsymphony.org.

Excerpts from the music to be played are available at the Hawaii Youth Symphony Web site: www.hiyouthsymphony.org.
