Shifting trade winds help stabilize weather

The threat of heavy rain has diminished and the flood watch for the state has been canceled, the National Weather Service said, but the threat of heavy rain still remains mostly over the Big Island.Today's weather will feature moderate locally fresh trade winds that will slowly weaken and become northeasterly by the weekend. The shifting trade winds have helped stabilize the atmosphere, the weather service said.
Of all the islands, the Big Island remains most at risk for heavy rains today despite not seeing any over the past 18 hours.
Today: Scattered showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Breezy, with east wind around 23 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
