State Rep. Takai calls for traffic radio station for Oahu

Associated Press

HONOLULU — State Rep. Mark Takai is calling for a countywide AM radio station to inform O'ahu residents about traffic delays.

He says 20 other states have such a station, which could broadcast 24 hours a day and provide information about detours, highway closures, work zones and traffic accidents.

Takai says the radio station could provide more specific information than a commercial traffic report or message sign. Since most cars have AM radios, he says no additional equipment would be needed to receive the broadcast.

Takai has introduced legislation that would require the State Department of Transportation to establish and operate the system.
