Wailuku woman thrown from pickup truck, dies
A Maui woman was killed when she was thrown from her vehicle in an accident on Haleakala Highway yesterday, Maui police said in a news release.
Wailuku resident Roselle Kalalau was driving toward Kahului at 11 a.m. when she lost control of her 2004 Toyota pickup truck and veered off the right shoulder of the highway.
Her vehicle struck a construction barrier, deflected back onto the highway, then struck a guardrail. She was thrown from the vehicle when it landed in an irrigation ditch.
Kalalau sustained critical injuries and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she later died.
Her death marks Maui's second traffic fatality this year.
