47 prep athletes sign letters of intent

Advertiser Staff

Forty-seven high school athletes signed their national letters of intent at a 7 a.m. ceremony this morning at Mission Memorial Auditorium near Honolulu Hale.

The ceremony included an opening speech by Mayor Mufi Hannemann. Among those athletes who signed to play for their chosen colleges included football players Solomon Koelher of Castle (Arizona), Geordon Hanohano of Saint Louis (Hawai'i), McKinley's Earvin Sione (Hawai'i) and Ryan Eastman of Saint Louis (Weber State).

Another signing will be held later this morning at Kahuku High School and at other locations throughout the state.

National Letter of Intent Signing Day is the first day that a player can accept an athletic scholarship to play for the college or university of his choice.
