TheBoat reaches 20,000-passenger milestone

The city's intra-island commuter ferry service, TheBoat, marked another milestone last week as the service recorded its 20,000th passenger boarding.

"We are pleased that many residents continue to use "The Boat" as a transportation alternative," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said in a released statement.

TheBoat runs Mondays through Fridays, with two ferries providing three trips to the Aloha Tower from Kalaeloa in the morning, and three trips back in the afternoon.

City officials launched TheBoat in mid-September as a demonstration project with a $5 million federal grant.

The city arranged bus routes to link up with the ferry at both ends of the service.

"Based on surveys we've been conducting with passengers, and other input, we will soon be looking at the possibility of adjusting TheBoat's schedules in order to better serve our customers," Transportation Services chief Wayne Yoshioka said.
