UH: Softball team plays Chaminade this weekend

The 15th-ranked University of Hawaii softball team opens its season with a three-game scrimmages against Chaminade Friday and Saturday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Friday's game is 6 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.

Five seniors — Kate Robinson, Kaulana Gould, Valana Manuma, Jessica Morton, and Brandi Peiler — will lead the Rainbow Wahine into battle. The Rainbow Wahine are the pre-season pick to win the Western Athletic Conference title and Robinson was picked as the preseason WAC Player of the Year.

Robinson had a record-setting junior year in which she set school single-season records with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs while hitting .358. As a pitcher, she went 17-1 with a 2.01 ERA.

Admission to the games are free.
