High-surf advisory for north, west shores today

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Ni'ihau, Kaua'i and O'ahu and north-facing shores of Moloka'i and Maui.

Open ocean swells from an intense Pacific storm northwest of the state several days ago have reached the north and west shores of Kaua'i and O'ahu. The same swell will spread to Moloka'i and Maui later today and is expected to linger through Friday night.

Surf of 12 feet to 18 feet is expected along north-facing shores today.

The high-surf advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.
