Moloka'i under flash-flood warning

The National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood warning for Moloka'il, effective until 9:45 tonight.

At 6:36 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over East Moloka'i from Kawela to Halawa valleys. The area of rain was nearly stationary.

The weather service said low-water crossings on Highway 450 east of Milepost 2 are especially susceptible to flooding.

Other areas covered by the warning included, but are not limited to, Kalaupapa, Kamalo and Puko'o.

The weather service has also issued a flash-flood watch for Maui and the Big Island through 8 this evening. There is a potential for heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms.

There is also a flood advisory in effect for O'ahu until 8:30 p.m. At 5:24 p.m., radar showed moderate to heavy rain over the Ko'olau Range. Radar and rain gauges showed rainfall at 1 to 2 inches per hour in some areas. The area of rain was nearly stationary.
