TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. Last week's season opener (which reruns at 7 p.m.) mostly left our head spinning. Flash-forwards showed Hugo "Hurley" Reyes on the Mainland. On the island, Jack warily guided the "rescuers," while Locke and others retreated. Fortunately, things clear up tonight. We learn a little about the four rescuers including a possible motive. Meanwhile, "Lost" follows the "Close Encounters" style of strange discoveries around the globe. What happened to the island monster? What about claims that everyone on the plane died? A terrific hour stirs up questions and feelings.

"Survivor Micronesia: Fans vs. Favorites" debut, 7 p.m., CBS. Here's a fresh twist: One team has 10 past competitors; the other has 10 intense fans. The returnees range from the hugely muscled James Clement to the villainous Jonny Fairplay. Others are Yau-Man Chan, Amanda Kimmel, Parvati Shallow, Ozzy Lusth, Cirie Fields, Jonathan Penner, Ami Cusack and Eliza Orlins.

OF NOTE

"Ni Hao, Kai-lan" debut, 9 a.m., Nickelodeon. This animated series focuses on a little Chinese girl and includes some words in Mandarin.

"The Celebrity Apprentice," 8 p.m., NBC. How could you draw attention, if you had a store window, a mattress and beautiful models? OK, but how else? That's the problem facing both teams tonight, as they create designer-mattress displays.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. This rerun has Warrick trying to clear himself of murder; also, a rich woman was killed, after being involved with dog-fighting.

"In Treatment," 7:30 p.m., HBO. Be prepared for an emotionally brutal half-hour. A married couple (played by Josh Charles and Embeth Davidtz) fought fiercely last week (rerun at 7 p.m.). There are surprises now and we learn more about the therapist's wife, strongly played by Michelle Forbes.

"Lipstick Jungle" debut, 9:01 p.m., NBC. This series veers close to the mistakes of ABC's "Cashmere Mafia" and "Big Shots," with characters who lack warmth or vulnerability. It does catch one woman (played by Lindsay Price) in midfailure, but promptly gives her a billionaire boyfriend. Brooke Shields and Kim Raver play wheeler-dealers with so-so marriages. Tonight's hour is OK, but next week has an absurd plot twist for Shields' character.

"Eli Stone," 9:02 p.m., ABC. Fresh from a big victory and from spreading his dad's ashes, Eli has quit hearing music that isn't there. He's happy — briefly. This hour isn't nearly as good as last week's opener, but it does have its moments of fun. There's good work from Jonny Lee Miller as Eli and Victor Garber as his boss and future father-in-law.
