UH water polo wins

Lisa van Raalte and Angela Turnbull each scored four goals as the fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team swamped host Pacific, 22-8, yesterday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Stockton, Calif.

Emily Cox and Kelly Mason added three goals apiece to help the Rainbow Wahine win their season opener. Dara Tawarahara, a 2007 'Iolani School graduate, led UOP with three goals.

UH plays fifth-ranked California today in another MPSF match.


GOLF

UHH 10TH, UH 18TH

Ryan Felix shot a 1-under-par 69 yesterday to help Hawai'i-Hilo finish in 10th place after the opening round of the UH-Hilo Invitational at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

Felix is in a tie for 20th. The Vulcans shot 2-over 282.

UH-Manoa was last in the 18-school field after shooting 12-over 292. The Warriors' Robert Berton is tied for 36th after a 1-over 71.

Arizona State and Texas Tech share the team lead at 9-under 271. Arizona State's Stephan Gross leads by one stroke after shooting a 6-under 64.


BASKETBALL

CU, BYUH SPLIT

Marko Kolaric had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and reserve James Francisco hit three clutch free throws late in the game to help Chaminade beat Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 76-70, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's game at McCabe Gym.

Hayden Heiber added 18 points and eight assists for the Silverswords (16-5, 11-1).

Paul Peterson led the Seasiders (11-6, 6-4) with 21 points.

In the women's game, Agnes Tuilevuka had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Madison Kite contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds as BYUH (4-14, 4-6) blitzed Chaminade (0-19, 0-12).

Marian Murphy scored 15 points and Katherine Carlisle 10 for the Silverswords.
