GiRL FeST concert on Feb. 16 will honor slain women

Advertiser Staff

GiRL FeST Hawaii is holding a domestic-violence awareness concert next weekend in remembrance of two local women who were killed by their domestic partners.

Jenny Hartsock was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend in Kalihi on Jan. 9; seven days later Janel Tupuola was bludgeoned to death by her former boyfriend in Kailua.

The concert, dubbed "Women Re-birthing Justice," will be held at 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at NextDoor, 43 N. Hotel St.

GiRL FeST is a locally founded national organization that raises awareness of, and works to prevent violence against women and girls through education and art.

Local artists, DJs, musicians, slam poets and anti-violence activists will join Oakland, Calif., singer and GiRL FeST regular Jennifer Johns for the concert.

Event coordinators will also be available to assist survivors of domestic violence and friends and family of survivors.

Admission for "Women Re- birthing Justice" is $10 at the door and is restricted to those 21 and older.
