Kahiau, a nonprofit foundation that is the fundraising arm of the U.S. Tennis Association's Hawai'i Pacific Section, has received one of the inaugural Community Partnership Strategic Investments Grants from the USTA. It is worth $20,000.

The USTA program is designed to "support community-based organizations that build tennis communities through collaborative and lasting partnerships." The six organizations that received grants met the criteria of working to increase participation, supporting tennis programs and fostering diversity.

Kahiau, which means "selfless generosity," was founded in 1966 as the Hawai'i Tennis Patrons Association. Its original purpose was to support youth tennis. In 2005, Kahiau became a partner and fundraising arm for the HPS. It supports youth, adult and special populations by helping to fund programs conducted by the section and other community tennis organizations.

Grants are renewable for up to three years based on progress. All grants must be matched in cash or services.
