Two Leeward Coast beach parks will temporarily close at 10 p.m. this evening for major cleanup and renovation work, City and County officials said.

The Nani Kai Beach portion of Ulehawa Beach Park, and the nearby Surfer's Beach area, will reopen after 3 p.m. on Feb. 15.

The temporary closure will allow city park workers to complete extensive maintenance and repairs that include a thorough cleaning of the comfort station and replacement of bathroom fixtures.

City Department of Parks and Recreation Director Les Chang said the work will ensure the parks are safe and clean. He provided a full breakdown of the projects to be completed over five days.

At the Nani Kai portion of Ulehawa Beach Park:

• Repair entire irrigation system

• Update comfort stations with new flush valves and sink faucets and fixtures

• Repair all broken windows

• Repaint comfort station

• Replace comfort station partitions

• Replace old signage

• Install standard park closure signs

• Repaint parking stalls, disabled stalls, picnic tables, crosswalks and charcoal pits

• Replace damaged table planks

• Install heavy duty chain with padlocks to three service entrances

• Treat entire area for rodents

• Fertilize entire park

• Remove one old sign pole

• Remove nine dead coconut trees

At Surfer's Beach Park:

• Repair rock wall

• Repaint parking stall lines, curbing and charcoal pits

• Install standard park closure signs

• Repair entire irrigation system

• Repair showers

• Remove two dead coconut trees
