A 52-year-old Pahoa man died Saturday evening after his car ran into another vehicle at the intersection of Hawai'i Belt Road and Kukui Camp Road in Mountain View, police said. The accident occurred at 5:03 p.m. when the Pahoa man rear-ended a 26-year-old Mountain View man driving a 1987 pickup truck who had stopped to make a left turn onto Kukui Camp Road. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The 52-year-old Pahoa man died at the Hilo Medical Center at 6:04 p.m. It was not known if speed or alcohol were factors. The Pahoa man was not wearing his seatbelt. Police have initiated a negligent homicide investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police officer Andres Fojas at 808-961-8889.
