Ethnic music by Partners in Time at Atherton March 1

Advertiser Staff

On March 1, Partners in Time returns to the Atherton Studio for a concert of ethnic music from the Balkans and the Near East, including Armenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Greece.

The group also mixes jazz stylings and original jazz-fusion into its music. Improvisational segments are incorporated within many of the tunes, a common practice in both Balkan/Near Eastern music and jazz.

The members of Partners in Time are Kip McAtee (guitar and Bulgarian tambura), Anita Trubitt (accordion), Ernie Provencher (bass), and Marcia Kemble (dumbek, or hand drum, and frame drum).

Their special guest, Souren Baronian, plays G clarinet, soprano saxophone, kaval (flute), dudook (double-reed instrument) and tambourine.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $17.50 for HPR members, and $10 for students with ID. For reservations, call 955-8821.
