KAPOLEI
Rock quarry meeting canceled by commission

Advertiser Staff

A meeting that was to take place tomorrow on the proposed expansion of the Makakilo rock quarry has been postponed by the city Planning Commission.

The additional time was needed to allow city planners to complete a report to submit to commissioners.

And because the notification requirements for a special-use permit require at least 30 days notice, a hearing likely won't be held until mid-March.

Grace Pacific wants to extend the life of the quarry, which is mauka of H-1 Freeway, for 25 years through 2032. The plan expands the quarry upward toward the 700-foot elevation of Pu'u Makakilo.
