Hilo mom gets 10-year term in crystal meth case

Advertiser Staff

A 47-year-old Hilo woman has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison after police caught her in a car with her 15-year-old child and seven packets of methamphetamine that police said were packaged for sale.

Carol Marie Waters was convicted of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug after her arrest on July 12. Prosecutors noted she had been arrested 58 times since 1985, and was on probation for a theft charge when vice officers served a search warrant on her car. Police seized about five grams of meth from the car.

Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara rejected a request that Water be placed back on probation, citing her long criminal history and the damage methamphetamine does to the community.
