The story of the 2007 Western Athletic Conference football champions could be summed up in a word.

Bling!

Yesterday, the Hawai'i football team received rings commemorating its WAC title and the NCAA's only unbeaten regular season in 2007.

Before distributing the rings, head coach Greg McMackin thanked his predecessor, June Jones, now head coach at Southern Methodist. Most of all, McMackin said, "this was because of the players. The players made the plays."

McMackin designed the rings, which has "Hawai'i," palm trees, Diamond Head, the sun, the beach and "12-0" on one side. On the other is the wearer's name, a helmet with an "H" on it, "Warrior 'Ohana," and the owner's jersey number. On the face, "WAC Championship" is on the top and "Sugar Bowl" is on the bottom.

"And," McMackin said of the middle, "a little bling for the fellas."

"This is a reward for all of the hard work," linebacker Solomon Elimimian said. "We put in a lot to reach this goal together."
