Colleges: Texas official investigated in missing $60,000

AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas police and Travis County prosecutors are investigating a former Longhorns associate athletic director in connection with up to $60,000 missing from accounts he oversaw.

According to a search warrant for the office of Douglas George Wilson, money was missing from accounts related to entrance fees for the annual Texas Relays track meet.

UT athletics spokesman Nick Voinis said Wilson no longer works in the office but would not say when Wilson left or why. As of Friday, Wilson was listed on the university's Internet directory.

A telephone message left at Wilson's home Friday was not immediately returned.

A Feb. 8 search of Wilson's office at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium found dozens of checks, many from high schools that participated in the meet in 2006 and 2007, according to court documents.

A week earlier, university officials searched a room where items are kept for the meet and found a "large amount of checks, cashier's checks, money orders and receipts, all of which were dated between 2003 and 2007, that were related to the payment of these entry fees that were not deposited," the warrant stated.

Voinis said the school could not comment on a pending investigation.

It was not immediately clear if Wilson has an attorney.
