Maui Energy Co. to be acquired by Colorado company

Maui Energy Co., a seller of small wind turbines on Maui, has agreed to be acquired by Vista International Technologies Inc., an Englewood, Colo.-based company focused on renewable energy.

Vista said it had agreed to acquire Maui Energy in a stock swap and to keep Maui Energy president Leo K. Caires in his current capacity. Vista said the acquisition will give it an entry point into the Hawai'i market.

"Disposal of municipal solid waste on the islands has been a growing problem and management feels that Vista International Technologies Thermal Gasifier technology presents an optimal solution in dealing with the limited landfill space," said Barry Kemble, Vista International chief executive officer in a press statement.

Vista International trades on the over-the-counter Bulletin Board market. Yesterday its shares were unchanged at 13 cents each.
