Cyanotech Corp. reports smaller quarterly net loss

Cyanotech Corp., the Kona-based producer of nutritional and health products from microalgae, reported its net loss narrowed by about half during the last three months of 2007 as revenue increased.

The company had a loss of $594,000, or 11 cents a share, in the October-to-November period. That compared with a loss of $1.19 million, or 23 cents, a year earlier.

Sales in the quarter increased by 14 percent to $2.76 million as it sold more of its natural astaxanthin product. Revenues were $2.43 million in the quarter a year earlier.

During the quarter, the company announced it was laying off 13 workers, or about 20 percent of its workforce.


HAWAIIAN SAYS PLANES 83.1% FULL

Hawaiian Airlines said its planes were 83.1 percent full in January.

The state's largest carrier said that was down 0.9 percentage point from 84 percent a year earlier.

Hawaiian said it served a total of 567,160 passengers last month, which was up 3.8 percent from January 2007's 546,164.


HEALTH CENTER TO OPEN CLINIC TODAY

The Kalihi-Palama Health Center is scheduled to open a new $1.7 million satellite clinic in Downtown Honolulu today.

The KPHC Downtown Family Medical and Dental Center at 89 South King St. is expected to provide primary healthcare services for more than 4,000 patients a year.

Among the services provided at the facility will be medical and preventive care for adults and children, behavioral healthcare, dental care and acupuncture. The clinic will also have interpreters who speak Chinese, Filipino and Korean.


MORNING BREW REOPENS IN KAILUA

Morning Brew cafe in the Kailua Shopping Center has reopened with an expanded menu following a renovation.

In addition to its traditional breakfast and lunch fare, Morning Brew will begin serving tapas, beer and wine, said owner Peter Anderson, who runs the cafe with his wife, Debbie.

The cafe has doubled in size and now includes a stage that will feature live performances by local entertainers, Anderson said.

Morning Brew is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m on Friday and Saturday.


HRPT PROPERTIES INCOME DECLINES

HRPT Properties Trust, a major owner of industrial space on O'ahu, reported net income available to shareholders fell to $8.9 million in the fourth quarter from $23.2 million a year earlier.

The company, which owns about 17 million square feet of leased industrial and commercial lands in Hawai'i, said 92.9 percent of its total square footage was leased at the end of 2007. A year earlier the percentage was 93.1 percent.

The Newtown, Mass.-based company owns 535 properties with 64.5 million square feet of space nationwide.
