Pan Pacific soccer team plays HPU tomorrow

To gear up for the Pan Pacific Championship, Gamba Osaka of Japan will take on the Hawai'i Pacific University men's soccer team tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Waipahu.

Gamba Osaka is competing in next week's four-team Pan Pacific Championship at Aloha Stadium. The other three pro teams are the Los Angeles Galaxy, Houston Dynamo and Sydney FC.

The exhibition match will feature three 45-minute periods, one more extra period than a regulation soccer match.

HPU coach Scott Liedtke said playing a team like Gamba Osaka is a privilege.

"This is a great opportunity for our players and coaches to see up close what the highest level of soccer looks like," Liedtke said in a press release.

HPU finished the 2007 season with a 4-5-1 record.
