The Year of the Rat has begun, and the celebrations are continuing.

Among them:

  • 10 a.m. today at Kunia Shopping Center

  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Ward Warehouse

  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Waipahu Festival Marketplace, 94-340 Waipahu Depot Road.

  • 3 to 6 p.m. today at Wahiawa Shopping Center and Wahiawa Town Center

And there's a special Jishin Balpgi — "stepping on the Earth spirit," in Korean — a colorful, traditional village folk festival that will feature Korean music, drumming and dance. It begins at noon today at Pawa'a City Park, and continues with performances at stores in the Ke'eaumoku shopping district. Among the participants: the University of Hawa'i-Manoa Korean student drumming group Tuh-Ool-Lim and Halla Huhm Korean Dance Studio.

    It's free. 393-1226.
