Boy, 16, is suspect in McCully cab robbery

Advertiser Staff

A 16-year-old boy was arrested early today in McCully on suspicion of robbing a cab driver of his car, damaging a police vehicle and driving without a license.

The incident occurred at 12:50 a.m. The boy was arrested at 1111 McCully Street.

Prosecutors filed a petition with Family Court today at 2:45 p.m. seeking to charge the youth with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal property damage and driving without a license.

The cabbie, a 42-year-old man, was not injured.

According to police, the boy caught the cab and had the driver take him to different locations. Suspecting the boy did not have money to pay the fare, the driver stopped near a bank ATM in McCully.

The boy eventually allegedly threatened the driver with an air pistol. The cabbie ran from his car and caught the attention of patrol officers responding to the scene.

The boy allegedly attempted to drive off in the cab but struck a police vehicle.

The boy is being held at the Alder Street detention facility pending Family Court action.
