Firefighters responding to a building fire in Pearl City this morning instead found a backhoe tipped on its side with transmission fluid spilled and smoke rising from the machine.

The Honolulu Fire Department received the fire call at 1:34 a.m. at Kuahao Place in Pearl City, but a check of the industrial area turned up only the smoking backhoe.
