North, west shores under high-surf advisory

Advertiser Staff

A high-surf advisory has been issued for north- and west-facing shores of O'ahu, Kaua'i and N'iihau and the the northern shores of Moloka'i and Maui through 6 p.m. tonight.

The National Weather Service said surf along north shores will be rising to 10 feet to 15 feet and surf along west shores will be 8 feet to 12 feet.

The surf will be much smaller, 1 foot to 3 feet, along east and south shores.

The current rising northwest swell is expected to begin declining tonight. A reinforcing northwest swell will boost heights back to near the advisory levels Thursday. Another larger northwest swell is expected to push surf heights over the warning levels Sunday night and Monday. A swell will roll into south-facing shores Saturday night, approaching advisory level on Sunday.
