Kaua'i police today identified the Lihu'e man killed early Sunday in a single-car crash on Hehi Road in Hanama'ulu as Stanford Vierra, 45.

Police said Vierra lost control the black Acura he was driving west on Hehi Road, also known as Hanama'ulu beach road, at 2:12 a.m. The car went off the north shoulder of the roadway and overturned in a ditch.

Vierra was pronounced dead at the scene. He was alone in the car.

Police said alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.

The death is Kaua'i's third traffic fatality of the year.
