Kauai precinct votes nearly 4-1 for Obama

Advertiser Staff

One precinct on Kaua'i reported the result of its caucus with Sen. Barack Obama getting 165 votes to 42 for Sen. Hillary Clinton and one for John Edwards.

The results were for District 16, Precinct 1, which voted at Koloa Library.

"This was the biggest turnout for a caucus ever," said precinct chairman Dr.

Monroe Richman, who has been a Democrat since he voted for Harry Truman.

"It's 100 more than what I predicted," Richman said of the Koloa event,

which wrapped up voting just after 7:30 p.m.

Most of the more than 200 people who turned out had never been to a caucus

before.
