Pair charged with Waianae armed robbery

Prosecutors today charged two men with a Jan. 26 armed robbery in Wai'anae.

Lionel K. Afoa, 39, was arrested at the Halawa Correctional Facility and charged with first-degree robbery, attempted second-degree murder and three firearm offenses while Tuulofoaina Utuga, 30, currently awaiting trial at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center was charged with first-degree robbery.

Bail for each man is $100,000.

The pair are accused of beating and robbing two men, ages 40 and 37, shortly after they left a gambling event in Wai'anae at 5:30 a.m. Afoa allegedly fired a shot a shot at one of the victims.

Afoa's criminal record includes 25 prior convictions; Utuga has four convictions.
