'I Love You …' returns March 5 to MVT

Advertiser Staff

So what if Valentine's Day is past? Cupid remains on the radar at Manoa Valley Theatre, where "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," a beloved off-Broadway musical comedy revue, returns March 5, embracing everything about romance — dating, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws.

It is Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts's tale on everything you've ever secretly thought about love, but were afraid to admit.

The charmingly cheeky celebration of the mating game—and one of the biggest hits in MVT's 39-year history when it played more than 25 sold-out performances in 2001—is being revived for a run through March 23.

An ensemble composed of Kim Anderson, Tricia Marciel, James Santos and Elitei Tatafu Jr. explores the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as "the relationship" from every possible point of view. Act I is a journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, while Act II reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set.

Linda Johnson is guest director-choreographer, with Christopher Richard Lowe guest-conducting the orchestra.

Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets: $30, with $5 discounts for seniors and military. For patrons 25 and younger, admission is $15.

Reservations: 988-6131, www.manoavalleytheatre.com.
