Tennis: Sharapova in Qatar Open semifinals

Associated Press

DOHA, Qatar — Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova routed Caroline Wozniacki 6-0, 6-1 today for her 12th straight victory and a spot in the Qatar Open semifinals.

Sharapova, seeded fourth, played a strong baseline game that proved too much for her 17-year-old Danish opponent.

"I think it was easy because I did all the right things today," Sharapova said. "However, there were a few games which were close, but I did well to win them."

The Russian will meet 16th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the semifinals tomorrow. Radwanska beat Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-4.

"I lost to her at the U.S. Open," Sharapova said. "I don't want to lose again."

Also today, Vera Zvonareva of Russia rallied past 15th-seeded Sybille Bammer of Austria 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
