Kaneko shoots 71, Wie 78 at Fields Open

Advertiser Staff

Sacred Hearts student Ayaka Kaneko shot 1-under-par 71 and Punahou School graduate Michelle Wie shot 6-over 78 today in the final round of the Fields Open in Ko Olina.

Kaneko, 18, overcame an opening-hole double bogey and recorded six birdies and three bogeys to finish with a three-round total of 3-under 213 (72-70-71). She finished among the top 50 players but is an amateur and will not collect a paycheck.

Wie, 18, had a promising start to the tournament, but finished at the bottom of all the players making the cut. Her three-round total was 4-over 220 (69-73-78).

Today, she recorded three birdies, four bogeys, one double bogey and a triple-bogey 7 on the 18th hole.

Last year, Wie endured injuries to both wrists and was a total of 110-over par. Until Thursday's 69, Wie had not shot a round in the 60s since July 2006.
