UH men's basketball team falls to Riverside, 79-62

Associated Press

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Larry Cunningham became UC Riverside's all-time leading scorer with a 31-point performance in a 79-62 victory over Hawaii tonight.

Cunningham went 10-for-15 from the field, 3-for-6 from 3-point range and 8-for-8 from the line to bring his career total to 1,390 points.

He passed previous leader Howard Lee, who scored 1,386 points for Riverside from 1969 to 1972.

A pair of Cunningham free throws with 1:36 to play tied Cunningham with Lee and gave the Highlanders a 68-58 lead.

Seconds later he went to the line again and broke the record with two more free throws.

Severin Gates added 11 points for UC Riverside (7-17), and Cleavon Barlow and Christian Soto scored 10 apiece.

Bobby Nash had 13 points and seven rebounds and Kareem Nitoto also scored 13 for Hawaii (11-14).
