Police are searching for a 16-year-old boy who escaped from the Ho'okipa facility on Kalaniana'ole Highway this morning.

The boy, from Maui, has a dark complexion with shaved brown hair and brown eyes. He's described as about 5-feet-5 and weighing 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing gray clothes and possibly heading toward the Nanakuli Homesteads area.

The Ho'okipa facility is part of the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility. It detains boys with sentences of a year or less and all incarcerated girls.
