Waialua Library to host Hawaii authors' night

Island authors will discuss their work Thursday at the The Friends of Waialua Public Library's 11th annual Authors' Night and Book Sale.

Award-winning illustrator Caren Loebel-Fried will describe how she refined her method of illustration. She will also present "Pua Polu: The Pretty Blue Hawaiian Flower" written by Nona Beamer and illustrated by Loebel-Fried.

For local foodies, Donovan Dela Cruz will chat about his new "Puka Guide: 100 Hawaiian-style Hole-in-the-Wall Restaurants." And author and Kapi'olani Community College instructor Mavis Hara will present her first book, "An Offering of Rice."

Plumeria expert Jim Little will talk about his award-winning book "Growing Plumerias in Hawai'i."

A pupu reception kicks off the event at 6:30 p.m., followed by author presentations at the library, across from the Waialua Bandstand. Proceeds from book sales will be donated to the library, 637-8286; or e-mail nicolethode@yahoo.com. Free.
