PALOLO SERVICE PROJECT — Weed control along Mau'umae Trail, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 8; involves 45-minute hike and some off-trail weeding in steep terrain. SANDY BEACH CLEANUP — Join the Sierra Club, 8-10:30 a.m. March 9, for cleanup of highway and coastal areas. Bring closed-toe shoes, water, hat and sunscreen; bags, gloves provided. Participants under 18 must have signed waiver. Meet at the east restroom at Sandy Beach Park. Call 394-2898.

POUHALA MARSH — Pull pickleweed and mangrove in Pearl Harbor marsh, 8:30-11:30 a.m. March 8. Bring work gloves, water, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes; covered footwear and long pants required. Contact Pauline Kawamata at 955-0100, ext. 18.

WAIPAHU EARTH DAY — Aloha 'Aina Recycling Community Cleanup Project will accept bulky items and recyclables, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. March 1 at Waipahu Intermediate. Accepting HI-5¢ containers, printer cartridges, usable lumber, clothing, scrap metal, auto parts, cooking oil, lawn mowers, newspapers, cardboard, fishing nets and more. OPERATION POLIHALE — Volunteers welcome to work with Pi'ina Hoku youth program, 8 a.m.-noon March 8 and April 12, doing cleanup, plant trimming, repairs, painting at Polihale State Park. Contact Leadership Kaua'i at 808-246-8727.

CRATER OVERNIGHTER — The Friends of Haleakala National Park will do cabin maintenance, invasive species removal or other work during March 15-17 service trip to Holua Cabin. KALIHI NATURE PARK — Volunteers needed 8:30 a.m.-noon March 15 to help in a land-based health program for Kokua Kalihi Valley; work includes weeding, gardening, removing invasive species and replanting native forests.
