UH diver from Sweden earns Olympic qualifying spot

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawaii senior diver Magnus Frick earned an Olympic Games qualifying spot for his home country of Sweden during today's 3-meter springboard "B Final" at the 2008 FINA World Diving Cup, held in Beijing, China, according to the UH Web site.

Frick placed seventh in a field of 37 divers, with a score of 409.60. Now Frick must wait to see if the Swedish Swimming Federation and the Swedish Olympic Committee name Frick to the 2008 Swedish Olympic Team.

"This is a great day for Hawaii diving, having a Rainbow diver qualify for the Olympics is wonderful," UH Diving Coach Mike Brown said on the site. "Magnus just performed his two best lists ever at the world level, and showed that he deserves to be among the world's best divers at the Olympic Games."

Frick will be returning to Honolulu before joining the UH swimming and diving team in Houston, Texas for the Conference USA Invitational, which begins Wednesday at the University of Houston.
