High surf advisory today for most shores

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the south, north and west shores of most of the main Hawaiian Islands until 6 p.m. today.

The advisory for the southern shorelines is because of an unseasonable swell that will keep surf 5 to 8 feet overnight before it lowers to 3 to 5 feet.

Surf along north shores will be rising to 16 to 22 feet, while surf along west-facing shores will be 10 to 15 feet.

Surf along east shores will be much smaller, 1 to 3 feet.

The large northwest swell will gradually subside tonight and Wednesday. Another large northwest swell will arrive late Wednesday producing surf near advisory levels Thursday.
