The city's abrupt closure and reopening of the popular Koko Crater trail will be discussed today at the Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board meeting at Haha'ione Elementary School, 595 Pepe'ekeo St.

On Feb. 15, the city erected signs instructing hikers to stay off the trail, only to take them down hours later following public outcry.

"The Koko Crater and Koko Head region is a mixed-use recreational area enjoyed by thousands of people every day," Neighborhood Board Chairman Greg Knudsen said in a news release. "The Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board wants to facilitate solutions that accommodate all users. Closing the trails in not the only option."

Lester Chang, director of the city Department of Parks and Recreation, has indicated that he will attend the meeting.

Trail supporters are organizing a rally at Haha'ione Elementary at 6:30 p.m. The neighborhood board meeting will begin at 7.
