Moanalua Middle plans traffic-safety campaign

Advertiser Staff

Moanalua Middle School students are expected to participate in a sign-waving campaign tomorrow morning in front of their school to promote traffic safety in the area.

Drivers have been creating a traffic hazard by making illegal U-turns on Mahiole and Ma'alahi streets near the middle school and Moanalua Elementary School, said Rep. Glenn Wakai. Wakai said he has partnered with students, administrators and police to curb the illegal U-turns, which he said pose a danger to children who walk to school.

Police recently began monitoring the area and issued warning citations, Wakai said. After tomorrow's sign-waving campaign — planned from 7:30 to 8 a.m. — police will issue tickets to violators, he said.
