Injured UH guard Gibson cleared to play

Advertiser Staff Writer

Leading scorer Matt Gibson has been cleared to play for the University of Hawaii men's basketball team, but his role will be a game-time decision when it hosts Idaho tomorrow.

Gibson sat out Hawaii's last game at UC Riverside on Saturday with an injured left knee, and has not practiced since the team returned to Honolulu on Sunday.

Gibson was cleared to play by team doctors this afternoon, but did not participate in practice.

Hawaii head coach Bob Nash said Gibson will not start tomorrow because he has missed practices this week in preparation for Idaho.

"We'll see how things go tomorrow, and if we need to use him, we'll use him," Nash said. "But I'll go with the guys who have been here working the last couple days, and we'll see how Matt fits in based on the flow of the game."

Gibson, a 6-foot-5 senior point guard, leads the team with 16.7 points and 5.1 assists per game.

Hawaii (11-14 overall, 7-5 Western Athletic Conference) will host Idaho (6-19, 3-10) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow at the Stan Sheriff Center.
