Brokers sentenced in tax cases

Two Honolulu real estate brokers were sentenced in separate tax cases on Feb. 13, the state Department of Taxation announced.

Dona J. Johnson pleaded guilty to failing to file her general excise annual returns for tax years 2000 to 2005. She did not pay $31,070 in general excise taxes for the years in question. She was granted a deferred acceptance of a guilty plea and ordered to pay a fine of $3,000.

Perry Kunishige also pleaded guilty to failing to file his general excise annual returns for tax years 2003 to 2005 and also was granted his request for a deferred acceptance of a guilty plea. Kunishige did not pay $20,065 in general excise taxes for the three-year period. He was ordered to pay a fine of $6,000.
