Kaua'i surfers Andy Irons and Roy Powers advanced to the third round of the Quiksilver Pro men's contest yesterday.

The second round was run in 2- to 4-foot waves at Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta, Australia.

Irons was one of the standouts of the day, receiving a two-wave score of 16.37 in his second-round victory over Tahiti's Tamaroa McComb. Irons received a near-perfect score of 9.7 (out of 10) for a long ride early in the heat.

Powers advanced to the third round with a victory over Florida's Damien Hobgood.

Bruce Irons, Andy's younger brother, advanced to the third round earlier in the week.

North Shore surfers Pancho Sullivan and Fred Patacchia Jr. were eliminated yesterday. Sullivan lost to Australia's Julian Wilson, and Patacchia withdrew with a leg injury.

The Quiksilver Pro is the first event of the 2008 World Championship Tour.
