INDIANAPOLIS — A scoring error in Ohio State's game at Indiana on Monday night may have cost the Buckeyes a critical game in their quest for a fourth consecutive Big Ten title.

With 2:38 remaining in regulation and Ohio State leading 52-51, Indiana was awarded a point made from a disqualified free throw, and the point was never removed from Indiana's total.

The game went into overtime and Ohio State dropped into a tie for the Big Ten lead with a 69-61 loss. The Buckeyes and Hoosiers were tied at 54 through regulation.

Ohio State officials declined to comment.

The Women's Basketball Officiating Consortium, which administers referees for the Big Ten, was notified of the error on Monday night.

In a statement, the consortium concluded after discussing the situation with game officials, scorer's table personnel and the officials observer that there was shared responsibility among all parties. The scoring error was correctable until the end of regulation.
