Mokuleia surfer's death was a drowning

A 33-year-old male surfer brought to shore unconscious at "Silva's Channel" in Mokuleia died of asphyxia due to drowing, according to Honolulu Medical Examiner autopsy findings.

The ME finding listed epilepsy as "other significant conditions." Manner of death was accidental.

The man's name was not released pending confirmation of his identity. He died at Wahiawa General Hospital at 4 p.m., about 45 minutes after witnesses saw him floating in the water.
